Picasso, primitive art and the birth of the avant-garde
Thursday, April 4, 2024, 18:00

Antón Castro will lead us through an analysis of the role that primitive art played on the revolutionary development of historical avant-gardism in the late 19th century and early decades of the 20th century. Through the observation of the paradigmatic work of Gauguin, the Fauvism of Matisse and Derain, the Expressionism of Die Brücke, and, above all, the Cubism of Picasso we will understand how much the discovery of so-called black art in the statuary form conditioned the decisive paradigm shifts in the aesthetic canons of early modernity that led to the break with tradition and the birth of the avant-garde.
