Surrealismo

Surrealism is a literary and artistic movement launched by French poet André Breton in 1924, the year he published his Manifesto of the same name.

Inspired by Freud’s groundbreaking psychoanalytic research, Surrealist artists explored the creative potential of the unconscious in a revolutionary way, rejecting the limitations imposed by logic and rationality in favor of total freedom of expression.

The fusion of reality and dream is expressed in the free juxtaposition of different objects and materials, which reproduce dreamlike contents and unconscious visions.

The Surrealists embraced all kinds of media in their quest: from Meret Oppenheim’s bizarre fur-covered mug to Edward James’s fantastical garden, Las Pozas, nestled in the Mexican rainforest. By the time Breton died in 1966, Surrealism had spread around the world, becoming one of the most popular art movements of the 20th century.
