Catalog of the exhibition in Milan, Mudec Photo (May 15-September 15, 2019)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n

Internationally renowned Chinese artist Liu Bolin (Shandong, 1973), known to the general public for his mimetic performances, in which, thanks to accurate body painting, his body is fully integrated with the background, is the protagonist of Mudec Photo’s second exhibition. On the occasion of the exhibition, the artist has created a performance, specially created for Mudec, which has as its background the iconic pieces of his permanent collection. Liu Bolin’s poetics of hiding in order to become a thing among things makes us perceive how all places and objects have a soul, in which it is possible to blend in and vanish, identifying oneself with the Whole: a philosophy that is the daughter of the East, but which has conquered the entire world, especially the West. This practice interacts dialectically with the historical, political and social reality that hosts it: denunciation, critical reflection, political and social contestation are the possible levels of reading called into question. Behind the immediacy of the photographic shot there is the studio, installation, painting and performance: a process of making that lasts even days, demonstrating how these images are the synthesis of an often complex creative process that reveals the artist’s consciousness and intimate knowledge of reality in all its complexity. The catalog documents the Milan performance, enriched by precious backstage shots, and welcomes images of Liu Bolin’s most important works, giving ample space to the most recent shots and to some series little seen in Italy. The living voice of the artist, interviewed by the curator, guides the reader through the different sections of the itinerary. <\/p>\n\n\n
